West Midlands Semi Final Results

West Midlands Semi Final Results

The first ever Blastbeat with O2 Think Big Semi Final in the West Midlands took place on Friday 30th September at the Mill Theatre, Sedgley.

This year has been a great introduction to the West Midlands for Blastbeat, and we would like to say a big thank you to all teachers, parents, schools, and most of all students and bands for making our inaugural year such good fun. We look forward to increasing our footprint in the area in 2012.

Blastbeat would also like to thank the Department For Education, Black Country Challenge, Wolverhampton University, and O2 Think Big for their support in 2011, without which the programme could not have taken place. For more info on O2 Think Big, please visit www.o2thinkbig.co.uk

12 bands were competing on Friday and the standard was absolutely top quality. We would like to say a huge well done to all the competitors listed below, who have done themselves and their ESEs proud by reaching the Semi Finals and giving such brilliant performances.

The line-up of competitors was:

  • Split Ends
  • Uncensored
  • Damp Squib
  • Upperhand
  • Katie Collins
  • Young & Reckless
  • Fierd WIsh
  • Matthew & Elisha Pearce
  • Everyday Hero
  • Cross Fire
  • In Dantes Eclipse
  • New World Disorder

Kindest Of Thieves from Warrington, who performed exclusive tracks from their forthcoming album Sounds Like A Hiss, joined these acts as headliners, and drew a fantastic response from the crowd.

After much deliberating by our panel of industry judges, In Dante’s Eclipse, and Fierd Wish were chosen as the the two winners to progress to the UK Final at the IndigO2 venue, in London on 25th October 2011. It was such a tough decision, as any of the acts could have progressed on another day, and the standard of music in the area was hugely impressive.

Congratulations to the winning acts, and thank you to everyone who attended for making our first West Midlands Semi Final a huge success!
